Summary

University of San Diego (USD) is a Roman Catholic research institute founded in 1949 in San Diego, California and excelled to become an establishment of great excellence and quality education. USD articulate its Catholic identity by promoting religious beliefs and developing a person as a whole. Such beliefs are the foundation upon which overall mission and vision of university is based.

University campus is 180 acres with a covered area of more than two million square feet of houses and buildings. 16th century Spanish Renaissance architectural styles is used. On campus facilities include educational, administrative, residential, athletic, dining and support services. USD is under the governance of independent Board of Trustees and has seven academic divisions: the College of Arts and Science, School of Law, the School of Business Administration, the School of Leadership and Education Science, the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science and the Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies, the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering.

Currently university is offering 42 bachelor’s, 39 master’s, 6 law degree and 3 doctoral degree programs in nursing and leadership. Total enrolled students are 8321 in all programs being offered. Every semester around 1238 freshmen are admitted consisting of 319 transfers, 690 graduate students and 243 law students. Total degrees so far awarded are 2321 encompassing 1336 bachelor’s, 623 master’s, 362 doctorates. University’s alumni contains 61075 students living in every state of the country as well as in 108 countries abroad. There are 910 competent faculty members working currently for the university, of these 405 are full-time and 505 are part-time faculty members. USD is a member of West Coast Conference and Pioneer Football League. There are 23 sports clubs, 17 NCAA Division I teams, many recreation clubs and fitness classes.

USD is recognized as a Community Engagement Institution by the Carnegie Foundation and it is also a member of Ashoka’s Changemaker Campus Consortium. Publications like U.S. News & World Report, Princeton Review, Bloomberg Businessweek, and Frobes have highly recognized undergraduate programs offered by the university. Among National Universities, USD is ranked 92nd by U.S. News & World Report while 179th by Frobes and Washington Monthly. USD is also included in the annual guidebook of Princeton Review of 376 best universities. On the basis of campus it is ranked 2nd best for its environment and 39th in Most Beautiful Campus.
